FROM PAINTING TO PRINTING ON TEXTILES

The programme of the course includes a range of issues concerning various functions of textiles: artistic and design-related, connected with clothing or interiors. Within the framework of the course participants will get to know the media related to multifaceted applications of print and derivative techniques. The following ways of pattern making on textiles are planned as part of the course: painting/transfer printing by hand, stamp printing and traditional stencil printing. Participants will have the possibility to decide which types of printing to use and how to combine them. The created paintings, drawings and designs will become a starting point for defining the composition of the fabric and for studying the gesture, design, matter, trace of the paintbrush on paper or fabric. The applied means of expression and tools will to a great extent determine the character of the motifs and compositions created on the fabric (e.g. unique and artistic or rhythmical and repeated). There will be a possibility of experimenting with various method combinations. Participants will be able to use various kinds of base for their images and patterns in terms of materials (felt, polyester, cotton) and type of decorated objects (e.g. pillowcases, bags, elements of clothing). Creative in its character, the course aims to provide participants with comprehensive preparation to function both on an artistic and design level.
