Sławomir Kosmynka
Sławomir Kosmynka studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Łódź. He obtained his diploma in 1984 at Prof. Krzysztof Lenk’s Typography Studio, Prof. Stanisław Fijałkowski’s Painting Studio and Prof. Ireneusz Pierzgalski’s Photography Studio. Between 1994 and 1998 he was in charge of his authorial Graphic Design and Typography Studio at the School of Design and Advertising in Łódź. He received a scholarship of the Minister of Culture and Art in the years 1984 –1988, 1988 – 1990.

He works in the fields of graphic art, painting, installations, graphic design and typography. Since his graduation he has continued his work as a graphic designer and a consultant. He works at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts Łódź in the Department of Graphic Design of the Faculty of Graphics and Painting. He is head of the Editorial Design and Digital Media Typography Studio. In 2010, by the decision of the Department Board of the Faculty of Graphics and Painting and the Senate, he was awarded the title of Professor of the Strzemiński Acadedemy. Students and graduates of Prof. Kosmynka’s Editorial Graphics Design Studio have received many important awards and honourable mentions in competitions in Poland and abroad and have achieved significant professional success.

Sławomir Kosmynka has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. In the years 2000-2008 he created a cycle of digital graphic works inspired by aleatoric music and Władysław Strzemiński’s theory of unism. His cycles include: Neurofonts, Matrix, Typographica and Extensions. In 2012 he created the visual identification for the Nowy Theatre in Łódź. He is the author of placard – posters for the Nowy Theatre (TYPO-PIK-TO-GRAFIK). He has designed posters, graphic realizations of books, book series, templates, digital graphic works, posters, brochures, magazines, press, music and theatre publications. His posters are included in the collections of the Poster Museum in Wilanów, the Poster Gallery in Cracow, Krzysztof Dydo’s Poster Collection, BWA in Katowice; Smith Poster Gallery London, UK; Fort Collins University Texas, USA; Ogaki City Art Museum, Japan; Lahti Poster Museum, Finland; Tokyo Poster Museum, Japan; Stadt Galerie Osnabruck, Germany; OX Gallery, Berlin, Germany; Galerii Noumen, Stichting Nederlands Archief Grafisch Ontwerpers (NAGO) – Utrecht; HARVARD University CES, MARMARA University Fine Arts Faculty, Istambul, Turkey; the archives of the Nowy Theatre in Łódź; the archives of the Ateneum Theatre in Warsaw. In 2015 he was invited by the Masaryk University in Brno to give lectures and authorial classes in the field of graphic design and visual communication within the framework of a programme for Visiting Professors.
He works and lives in Łódź.
