UNIQUE AND FUNCTIONAL – HANDMADE INTERIOR OBJECTS
8° Course: AUGUST 8 - 20, 2017

Prof. Jolanta Rudzka Habisiak - Head of the Innovative Interior Object, Carpet and Tapestry Studio
Assistant: Zygmunt Łukasiewicz

The aim of the course is to process various materials in an experimental manner which will lead to creation of works from the field of textile art and soft utility objects.
Participants will be given a task of searching for the source of origin of various materials and of analyzing these materials from the perspective of their artistic potential. Creative transformation of the chosen material and the method of technical realization will be important elements of work. To broaden participants’ handicraft skills the course will involve practical workshops, during which basic weaving techniques will be introduced, these including: linen, soumak, hand - knotted carpet and experimental techniques. During the course each stage of creating works will be thoroughly analyzed in terms of the used materials and colours. In the case of unique textile composition, surface structure and interesting handicraft solutions will be evaluated. When designing soft interior objects, (such as: cushions of various sizes, poufs, soft containers for various objects (e.g. crocheted or knitted), table runners, lampshades, floor coverings, small rugs, etc) participants will be required to analyze their function, originality of shape and simplicity of technological solutions. Accomplishment of the course tasks will require creativity, boldness in decision making and involvement in the realization process. Creation of an authorial utility or decorative piece will be the result of participants’ work. The course will include theoretical lectures which will explain the theme of the classes, broaden participants’ knowledge and inspire them to independent actions. The course programme is flexible and allows for adjusting the level of the tasks to individual abilities of a participant
